Does your child have the voice of an angel? The Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC) is welcoming children ages 8-12 and young men to audition for its nationally-recognized choral music education and performance program. Who knows? Your child just might make the cut!

Held at LACC’s headquarters in the Pasadena Presbyterian Church, auditions for the 2015-2016 season may vary. The Treble Choirs auditions will take place from June 4th to the 7th. The Young Men’s Ensemble (YME) will host their auditions on August 17. A $50 fee will be charged for each audition to help LACC cover costs.

The Los Angeles Children’s Chorus offers children and young men with changing voices the chance to develop their musicianship skills. Through comprehensive programs and one-on-one vocal coaching, children have enjoyed their experiences in creating choral music and building camaraderie. LACC also provides once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to participate in its national and international touring program, as well as giving children the chance to experience the stage through collaborative performances with some of the world’s most prestigious companies such as the LA Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Get ready to sweat! Challenge yourself and compete with your friends in the 9th Annual Bank of America Pasadena Triathlon, Duathlon, and Rockin’ Reggae 5K! Whether you are new or experienced in triathlons, anyone can join this exciting and rewarding event, including your children!

Taking place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, this family-friendly event returns on March 7th. Test your endurance by swimming, biking, and running! If you are not a swimmer but prefer to bike and run, join the Duathlon; or you can register for the Rockin’ Reggae 5K to simply run. Registration prices vary on the competitions. The price ranges for each competition is as follows: individual entry is from $85 to $115; relay entry is from $125 to $185; youth entry is from $55 to $85; and kids entry is from $30 to $55. This year’s race will focus on making a difference for people living with paralysis and moving impairments. Dinners from the Heart

Hathaway-Sycamores has been dedicated to touching the lives of thousands of children and families who struggle with mental-health issues and serious life challenges. For three days, this organization will host its 24th Annual Dinners from the Heart fundraiser. We encourage you to take part of this charity event and make a difference in a child or youth’s life.

Become a caring member of the community by dining in one of Pasadena’s 40 outstanding dining establishments, including AKA Bistro, Café Pinot, and El Cholo. On Febraury 24th, 25th and 26th these restaurants will participate in Dinners from the Heart to raise funds for Hathaway-Sycamores’ comprehensive continuum of therapeutic and other support services. Diners will vary from $75 to $250 per person in each restaurant. These prices include a complimentary bottle of wine for each party of two! 5 Events helping Spread the Holiday Cheer this Thanksgiving Day

It’s that time again to bring out the Turkey and holiday cheer! May you have many reasons for love, laughter, and joy this Thanksgiving holiday! Around this time of year it’s a great time to extend a helping hand to those in need as well. We’ve tracked down a few events for you to give back in this joyful and festive holiday.

1. Thanksgiving Day Run and Food Drive

Family, friends, turkey, pie, and food, food, food! Thats what Thanksgiving night is all about so come work up your appetite and join in on all the action before all the festivities begin! The Community Center of La Canada Flintridge invites you to join them on their 21st annual Thanksgiving Day 5k Run and Food Drive. This Thanksgiving event has been a local tradition and a community favorite with families, athletes, and community supporters of all types! Please bring only non-perishable food items for donations.

4. Tofurkey Trot

Spread the peace! Turkeys need love and peace too! Join us at the Tofurky Trot Run, designed to support both the health and vitality of local communities and raise money for local groups supporting plant based diets. The 5k run, trot, or walk is open to all levels of physical fitness.  It’s a great day to enjoy the company of fellow plant eaters and highlight the benefits of plant based diets on this largely carnivorous holiday. Participants are asked to bring non-perishable, vegan, and other food items and their furry animal companions!

5. Union Station Homeless Services’ Annual Dinners-in-the-Park

The best way to give thanks is to give back. For more than 40 years, community volunteers who are hungry to help have helped Union Station Homeless Services serve thousands of free meals to homeless and low-income adults and families, senior citizens, and those who are alone at the holidays or unable to afford a holiday meal.

Volunteer registration for Thanksgiving is now closed, but the agency is still in need of non-perishable food donations. A Wish List of much needed items can be found at community is invited to drop off these supplies (in the indicated sizes) at 412 S. Raymond.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to Health Department regulations, Union Station Homeless Services is no longer able to accept turkey or prepared food donations at the event.

The Professional Child Development Associates invite you to it’s 3rd Annual Holiday Toy Drive to benefit children with Autism and other developmental challenges starting Wednesday, November 12th through Sunday, December 21st 2014 at participating businesses: PCDA, Arroyo Insurance Services, American Red Cross, Bea’s Knees Pasadena, Christian Service Ministry ABVM Pasadena, Jones Coffee Roasters, Pasadena Massage Company, Real Food Daily. Run With Us, Stats, Stats Vape Shop, The Old Town Shaving Company, Whole Foods-Foothill & Arroyo. We ask donations be new, unwrapped, and NOT battery operated.

PCDA is a non-profit organization dedicated to improve the lives of children and young adults who have autism and other developmental challenges, through leadership in family-centered, multidisciplinary services and professional training as a team under the direction of Diane Cullinane, M.D, developmental pediatrician and Mimi Winer, R.N., M.S., child development specialist.
